How To survive middle school: Makeup?

Makeup? Should you wear it? how much is too much? Here I'm going to tell you what kind of makeup you should wear for all of your awkward years. And you don't have to wear makeup if you don't want to.
In 6th grade go very light of you even wear makeup at all. A primer, foundation, lipgloss and maybe some blush. Very light in 6th grade you still have your baby face per say so you don't need to pile makeup on.You don't really have any acne and for the most part your skin stays pretty clear. So there is no need for much makeup. Definitley keep your face moisturized.
In 7th grade a lot of people start getting acne and your skin gets more oily. Always wash your face at least once a day. What I would reccomend for 7th grade is some foundation and powder along with mascara and lip gloss or lipstick. Because you are getting acne and small blemishes you may want to hide them.  But also if you don't have any acne do not feel like you have to wear any foundation or any makeup at all.
In 8th grade it's basically what you feel comfortable with wearing everyday. Maybe some eyeliner but that might be a little much for everyday at least. I don't reccomend wearing eye shadow everyday only for special occasions. But it is 100 percent up to you. These are just my reccomandations on makeup and you don't have to take if you do not wish too.

How To survive middle school:Fights

    Image result for students fighting

Fights? unfortunatley they are a part of middle school. In elementary school physical fights rarely happened if they even happened at all. The only fights you had back then were fights about who's best friend was who's and who got on the swings first. But now they are about more serious issues. Lets discuss shall we.
What do you do when you witness a fight? when you see a fight happening more than likely everyone in the school is running to it. If you see a fight you might be called into the princapal's office because you saw what happened without being biased. But you won't get in trouble best thing you can do is make sure you don't get involved and get yourself in trouble. But also don't be that kid that rats out the fight they're interesting to watch so don't ruin the fun.
What if someone wants to fight me? If someone wants to fight you, you should at least fight outside of school. And if you don't want to fight then you don't have to don't give into peer pressure. But if you really have to at least do it out of school so nothing will go on your record. You can easily walk away or just tell them off without using fists. It's way better that way anyway.
What happens after you get in a fight? If you do get into a fight you will be taken straight to the principal's office discipline office etc. Then you will write a student side and they willl call in witnesses. It's kinda similar to court if you think about it. Then you will usually end up with 3 or 4 days in school or out of school depending on the severity of the fight.

How To survive middle school: The 8th graders

Image result for hall full of kids in a school

As a 6th grader you may easily be intimidated by an eight grader. I'm gonna tell you how to deal with those pesky 8th graders. And for the most part how you'll view the kings and queens of the school for the next 3 years. This is definitley a game of taboo escpecialy when you actually become an 8th grader.
As a 6th grader you see 8th graders as top of the middle school social hierarchy. They are bigger than you smarter then you and have more friends than you. You feel like an ant compared to the 8th graders. During 6th grade you slowly learn to ignore the 8th graders and live in harmony, you have your friends and they have their friends and if you're on a sports team you might have one 8th grader as a friend but that's it. You never think you'll ever be 5'9 or have that many friends and enemies but eventually you will.
Now as a 7th grader your world starts to slowly collide with and 8th graders world. You have plenty of 8th grade friends and they're actually pretty fun. You don't see the 8th graders as threats anymore and for the most part they aren't really intimidating. They're just dogs in the dog park you're the shizu and they're the pitbull. You live in harmony with them and don't think you look that small compared to them anymore.
As an 8th grader you'll see the 8th graders as you. You are now an 8th grader this definitley comes as a shock factor. No one is above you to tell you what to do. Climbing to the top of the ladder is definitley fun. You look at the 6th graders as so tiny and little ants. All of your friends will agree and you'll think well i guess they're just smaller than we were. But believe it or not yes you were once that small as an 11 year old.

How To survive middle school: Uniforms

Now this post may not apply to everyone, because not every school has to wear unifroms. However almost every school that does not have uniforms has some kind of dresscode.
Now some schools will be very strict when it comes to uniforms and dresscodes and other schools only have a dresscode because they have too. Your job is to figure out which kind of school your school is. So on your first day go in wearing everything the dresscode calls for if it calls fro polka dot socks wear them. Take a look at the older kids and if they aren't following the dresscode then don't sweat it. Chances are they have been here for a while and know what to expect from the teachers.

Now the great debate: To have uniforms or to not have uniforms? now remember this is my OPINION and it doesn't have to be yours. Now I'm pretty neutral when it comes to uniforms. I personally love having a uniform because i don't have to spend an hour trying to pick out what to wear. But it would be nice to not have a uniform because I would be able to wear what I want that shows my personality. I really like having a uniform because it's easier and more functional but again you are entitled to whatever your opinion might be.
Now this subject is not so fun. Uniform violations, the consequence for violating dress code or uniform policies. Here's a little trick I learned to get out of something small like the wrong colored socks or no belt. When you walk by and see that a teacher may be looking at your purple socks simply don't make eye contact and just act like it's normal. If it doesn'r phase you it won't phase them. Althought this may not work for everyone it has worked for me 3 years solid. Best way to get out of trouble is to act innocent and don't give them a reason to get you in trouble.

How To survive middles school: friends?

Image result for group of friends

I know every youtube video has told you when you go to middle school you are going to lose friends but you're also going to gain new ones and for this one i definitley agree with that. Some friends will stay and some friends will leave and you'll even get a few people you never expected to meet but are such a huge part of your life. I am speaking from my personal friend experience in middle school. Everyone has a different experience with friends but i will be giving advice based on my personal experiences.
First things first, I hate to burst your bubble but you will lose friends wheteher you lose 1 friend or all of them you will lose at least one friend to the monster we call middle school. And I know what you are thinking me and my best friend have been friends since kindergarten and we could never be seperated, and for some cases that may be true but in reality that doesn't happen to often. Because in middle school people change and find their interests and they may just be dofferent than yours. It is perfectly okay to change in middle school everyone changes in one way or another and its completely normal. So don't be completely shocked if your frineds start acting differently.
Second thing, along with the loss you will gain a ton of friends. When i came to middle school I only had 4 friends with me and i'm only friends with 2 of them now. But i have gained so many other friends i could not imagine living without. In middle school you shouldn't let petty drama drive the your friends away from you. Because your friends will be your lifelines in middle school because i don't know how i would've made it without them.

How To survive middle school: Where to sit in the cafeteria

   Image result for cafeteria

When you get to middle school there is no more sitting boy girl boy girl in the cafeteria. You are allowed to talk at lunch and sit by whoever you want. And sometimes navigating the mysterious place called the cafeteria can be difficult so I'm here to help.
As I'm sure most 5th graders know that in middle school there is no recess. No playground and no running allowed. However lunch is a lot more fun than recess and when you are older you don't want a recess anyways.
Now this may come as a shock to most of you because it sure was to me, Most schools don't require you to eat in the cafeteria. If you bring your lunch you can outside. This was a major shock to me on the first day of school and i couldn't believe it.
Also, in middle school you don't even have to eat lunch if you don't want to. Although i would not reccomend going without lunch because then you would be hangry all day. But bringing a main course like a sandwich or a lunchable or even buying lunch is not a required thing.
Now where to sit, If you are actually dining in the cafeteria that day This is what i would reccomend: Just find a table. Getting a table for you and all your friends will be harder then navigating the cafeteria. In movies and books they have this seating chart where jocks sit and where the nerds sit but that really doesn't exist. The only thing i would say is do not sit by any windows because when the line moves everyone in it will stare at you trying to eat your lunch.

How To survive middle school: Where to sit in the classroom

Now on the first day of school when you walk into the new classroom you'll often ask yourself this question: Where should I sit? Now given the fact that in elementary school you usually or always had an assigned seat and if you didn't sit in it everyone noticed. Now that you're in middle school and  have the freedom to pick your own seat how do you deal with that power?
Image result for classroom
When you first walk into the class you have to figure out what you want, do you want to be the teacher's pet and sit right next to their desk, or be the social butterfly and sit in the back corner. Once you have figured that out it is relatively easy to pick a seat but of course nothing in middle school will be that easy. People will get to the class before you and already selected a seat, you have to work around that.
Now don't dash down the hall to be the first in the classroom as long as your not dead last you will be fine and most of the time not all of the desks are filled in a classroom anyways If being the social butterfly is on your agenda and the whole back row is take the move up a row. Now I personally like sitting in the middle because one day if you decide you're in a chatty mood and need to talk you can and when you want to seriously crack down and pay attention you can do that too.
But that decision is completely up to you. Now don't get your hopes to far up because if the teacher sees you talking to much they WILL move you. In elementary the teacher would threaten to move you day in and day out but if they have to warn you more than probably 3 times they are not afraid to move you.
And the decision may not be up to you and I know what you thinking well this whole article is about having the freedom to pick your own seat. However some teachers will let you sit where you want for the first week or so to see who you talk to and then give you assigned seats. And many will leave that decision up to the students if you get to loud the next class they might havea new seating chart.

How to Survive Middle School: What to pack in your bookbag

   Image result for heavy bookbag
Today on how to survive middle school, we are gonna discuss what to carry in your backpack. So when you first go to middle school you just bring all of these unnecessary supplies. You don't need five billion notebooks.
Most schools will have a block schedule so i recommend having 2 binders for each day. So if your school has 6 classes and you go to 3 each day you could make a binder for those 3 classes and divide the binder using tabs to reduce the carry weight.
Another tip is, don't put keychains and other things on the outside part of your schoolbag if you don't need them. It will just make your bookbag heavier for no reason. Hand sanitizers are fine because you may not have acess to a sink.
Some things that are not the most important but still useful are things like a mirror, deodarant, and even a portable umbrella if you ride the bus or have to walk home. Also a word of advice bring a flashdrive because you will more than likely have to use a computer and save your work onto a flashdrive. Also something you should definitley have with you is colored pencils or crayons because you have to color more in middle school then you do in elementary school.
Another thing i would reccomend is to split up your pens and pencils. Put half of them in your bookbag and keep half of them at home. It will help you not to loose your pens and pencils.

How To Survive Middle School: How to deal with homework!

Welcome to How To Survive Middle School #2. Today we are going to be talking about homework. Now I know, I know homework sucks it's not fun and I'm sad to report that it doesn't get any easier once you reach middle school. You may have heard your teachers talk about middle school and how much different it will be and the loads of homework you will get. But I'm here to tell you the truth on all things homework. Don't worry it isn't as bad as it's made up to be.
Number 1 thing you need to know about homework in middle school is DO YOUR HOMEWORK! it's not fun but every one you miss affects your grade in that class. In middle school they let you in on the grading more, they tell you how they grade your work and how much it affects your grade, all those 0's for homewrok will start to add up. Homework can either make or break your grade. You would be surprised how much homework can add up in the long run. The teacher's will give you the materials but you have to do something with them.
So probably on of the main things you want to know. How much homework do you get assigned per night? Now this honestly depends on the teacher some teachers may give you 3 assignments a night while others may only give homewrok once a month. But most schools run on a block schedule which means you will have 2 nights to complete an assignment, when I came to middle school this honestly shocked me. Now your first year of middle school they will not throw 20 assignments on you all at once , they understand that you are just getting used to being in middle school. You will definitley have more homework than you had in elementary but it won't be as bad as everyone says it is.
Another thing that you should definitley know about homework in middle school is that it doesn't matter as much. Now I'm not saying don't do your homework but if you do miss an assignment the teacher doesn't scold you for it. Most of the teachers will just mark a 0 and move on no punishments or anything like that. However that is th tricky part of middle school because the teachers won't be nagging you every second you have to turn in your homework because you want to get a good grade. Now the teachers want you to get good grades in their class but they have a 100+ kids to worry about so if one kid doesn't do their homework  they aren't going to flip.

How to survive middle school: The first day

Image result for keep calm and survive middle school

This is my new blog, In this blog I will be talking about how to survive middle school! Everything from what to always carry with you in your backpack to where to sit in the cafeteria. Middle School can be the best years of your life or they could be the worst but you have to go in with an open mind. Today's topic is going to be about how to survive your first day of middle school. In 3 years alot can happen so sit back and enjoy the ride.

Leading up to your first day you may be nervous or excited or even  a little bit of both. On your first day of middle school you are going to get lost, no exceptions everyone will get lost at least once. Don't be afraid to ask the teachers for help when you need to find a class I swear they don't bite and most of them are pretty friendly. Make sure to pay attention in ALL of your classes because it helps you get a feel for the teacher based on their syllabus and homework policies, if they can laugh at themselves when they make a mistake, then more than likely they are more easy going and fun!

The next thing you need to know for your first day of middle school is how to make a good first impression. First impressions are critical to your survival in middle school. They say you can never redo a first impression and with school this is extremely true. When you go to your teacher's class for the first time make sure to be quiet and let the teacher talk. Also don't keep an open mind when it comes to your teachers MOSTLY everything they do is to help you in the future so don't be too hard on them.
